Toyota Brings the All-New 2022 Corolla Cross to Canada

Toyota Brings the All-New 2022 Corolla Cross to Canada

Toyota continues to beef up its model lineup with the addition of the all-new 2022 Toyota Cross. This sub-compact SUV makes its way to Salmon Arm, BC, and the rest of Canada as a new version of Toyota's best-selling Corolla sedan.

Overview

By adding a sub-compact SUV version of the popular Corolla, Toyota is providing more versatility and performance for drivers. It adds all-wheel drive (AWD) for all-weather performance, as well as the capability to tow up to 680kg. It slots into the Toyota SUV lineup between the smaller C-HR and larger RAV4 as a competitor to the Kia Seltos and Jeep Compass. While Corolla drivers will feel right at home in the interior, the Cross does offer more cargo space and a taller driving position.

Models and Pricing

Toyota has announced that the versatile Corolla Cross will be offered in three trim levels--L, LE, and XLE--to offer variety to drivers. While Canadian pricing has not yet been released, it is believed that the Cross will start around $25,000. Wireless charging, smartphone connectivity, and Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 comes standard on all models of the Cross.

Drivers wanting to take advantage of everything that the Cross has to offer will jump on the XLE trim level, which offers the equipment that many SUV buyers are looking for without raising the price to an astronomical level. The XLE level will add a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, front and rear parking sensors, and more.

Performance

The Cross is powered by a 2.0-litre Dynamic Force engine and Direct Shift continuously variable transmission (CVT) that delivers a punchy 169 horsepower and the ability to tow up to 680kg. It can be paired with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive that has been designed to help drivers maintain great fuel economy as well as handle all driving conditions.

Exterior

Modern and powerful, the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross offers an approachable exterior that differs itself from the competition with key design elements. Built on the TNGA-C platform, the Cross offers a higher line-of-sight compared to the competition and pairs its height well with a distinctive black grille flanked by LED lighting with black body accents. This confident look continues around the back with an integrated rear spoiler and LED lighting.

Interior

Inside, the 2022 Toyota Cross shares many similarities with its Corolla sedan and hatchback siblings. However, it offers more space than both to offer more practicality to buyers, and it can also be outfitted with comfort and convenience features such as a power moonroof, as well as either single- or dual-zone automatic climate control. All trim levels provide something that other sub-compact SUVs do not--standard heating and air conditioning vents for rear seat passengers.

Space

Upgrading the Corolla to an SUV would be pointless if it did not increase the passenger and cargo space. Luckily for drivers, it did both. Drivers can take full advantage of the storage space thanks to the 60/40-split folding rear seats that come standard on all grades. It can also be conveniently accessed via an available power liftgate with height adjustability.
